Environmental cooperation with France to deepen

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Mongolia and France, Minister of Environment and Climate Change S.Odontuya met with French Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mongolia, Corinne Pereira Da Silva, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in the environmental sector.

During the meeting, Minister S.Odontuya expressed appreciation for France’s active involvement in Mongolia’s environmental initiatives, particularly the deployment of French experts under the “Billion Trees” national campaign. Highlighting the shared commitment to sustainability, the minister conveyed Mongolia’s interest in launching more joint projects with France, especially in the areas of green transition, climate change mitigation, and water resource management.

A key focus of the discussion was Mongolia’s preparations to host the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17) in 2026. S.Odontuya emphasized the importance of collaborating with France in the lead-up to this major international event, which both sides agreed would serve as a guiding framework for future cooperation.

Looking ahead, Minister S.Odontuya confirmed her participation in the upcoming “ChangeNOW” forum in Paris at the end of April. Ambassador Pereira Da Silva also extended an invitation for the minister to attend the UN Ocean Summit, scheduled to take place in Nice, France this June, underscoring the growing synergy between the two nations in addressing global environmental challenges.
