Blizzards expected

From April 2 to 4, Mongolia will experience varied weather conditions, including intermittent snow, blizzards, and temperature fluctuations. The country will see scattered clouds, with changeable clouds in the east and partly cloudy skies in other regions. Snow and snow blizzards are expected in the Khangai Mountains, eastern region, and areas along the Onon, Ulz, and Khalkh river valleys. Winds will shift west-southwest in the east, while the rest of the country will see winds from the west-northwest, reaching 12 to 14 meters per second in some areas, possibly leading to snowstorms. Precipitation will be minimal, though eastern areas may experience snow.

Temperatures will vary across regions, with the Uvs Lake Basin, Tes River Valley, and Khangai Mountains experiencing nighttime lows of minus 17 to 22 degrees and daytime highs of minus three to two degrees. The Darkhad Basin, Altai, Zavkhan, and Khuren Belchir will see nighttime temperatures between minus 10 and 15, with daytime highs ranging from two to seven degrees. The Orkhon-Selenge Valley and southern Gobi region will experience milder temperatures, with night temperatures between one and minus four degrees, and daytime highs between 15 and 20 degrees. On April 3, cooler temperatures are expected across most of the country.

Looking ahead, the weather from May to July will be shown with warmer-than-usual temperatures, especially in southern and western Mongolia. In May, the western, central, and northern regions will experience temperatures ranging from zero to six degrees, while the southern and Gobi regions will see warmer conditions, with temperatures between 12 and 18 degrees. Precipitation will be around 20 to 30 mm in mountainous areas like Khangai, Khuvsgul, and Khentii, with lighter rainfall in other regions.

In June, temperatures in the north and west will range from six to 12 degrees, while southern and Gobi areas will experience warmer conditions, between 20 and 24 degrees. Most of the country will see average temperatures of 13 to 19 degrees, with rainfall of 60 to 70 mm in mountainous regions and 10 to 20 mm in the Uvs Lake Basin and southern Gobi.

Moreover, in July, temperatures in the Altai, Khangai, and Khuvsgul regions will range from eight to 14 degrees, while southern Gobi and desert areas will see warmer temperatures between 20 and 26 degrees. The rest of the country will experience temperatures from 14 to 20 degrees. Rainfall will be the heaviest in the Khangai, Khuvsgul, and Khentii regions, with 70 to 100 mm expected, while the southern Gobi and Altai foothills will receive less.

Overall, Mongolia’s weather from April to July will feature fluctuating temperatures, light precipitation, and varying conditions across regions, with cool early spring transitioning to warmer and drier conditions in the summer.
