New parking complex to be opened in Zaisan

The Ministry of Environment, Green Development and Tourism, Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office and private companies are preparing to build a new parking complex at the start of the hiking trail of the Zaisan Memorial. The parking will cover an area of approximately 1.2 hectares and the construction will be completed before the National Naadam Festival, according to the Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office. Reportedly, the parking complex will have parking space for 264 vehicles, 60 bicycles, and separate parking for buses and taxis. The Ulaanbaatar City Council approved to fund around three billion MNT for the construction work. They plan to make nearby land owners evacuate 1.18 hectares of land to build the complex. The hiking trail of the Zaisan Memorial is the longest out of the three main hiking trails in the Strictly Protected Area of Bogd Khaan Mountain. On average, 4,000 to 5,000 hikers pass through the trail and park up to 450 cars nearby on the weekends. Due to lack of infrastructure and management, garbage piles up in the area and authorities receive many complaints about it, said a district spokesperson. The executors of the project believe that the new parking complex will help reduce garbage around the area, provide better traveling condition, improve soil pollution management, and enhance environmental protection measures.
