Mongolia and JICA to cooperate on earthquake disaster prevention

On Tuesday, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Mongolia Office Sato Mutsumi and Chairman of the National Emergency Management Agency T.Badral signed a memorandum on a technical cooperation project to strengthen earthquake disaster prevention capacity. The project will be conducted for three years, as a continuation of a project that has been implemented in Ulaanbaatar for the past year and a half. Under the previous project’s outcomes, an integrated earthquake risk map was made, risk management planning was improved, and work was carried out to introduce technology for constructing earthquake resistant buildings and advancing the earthquake disaster prevention capacities of local organizations and residents. The newly signed project will focus on strengthening disaster risk reduction governance, introducing technology for earthquake resistant buildings, and providing the public with disaster prevention education.
