Fires in households persist, NEMA reports

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reported a concerning trend, stating that fire cases in household settings have not decreased over recent years. According to NEMA, in the past five years, there have been 15,298 instances of domestic fires nationwide. These incidents have resulted in 247 people being burned, 310 fatalities, and approximately 1,200 homes being destroyed by flames.

Notably, more than 60 percent of these fires occurred in rural areas, while the remaining incidents took place in the capital city. A significant number of fires have been reported in ger district households, which the Head of NEMA’s Firefighting Department, Colonel Ts.Nyambayar, highlighted as a common issue.

An analysis of the causes of these fires reveals that over 53 percent of them were attributed to human negligence. In addition, 36 percent were caused by electrical issues, such as overloading circuits or using faulty electrical equipment. The authorities have urged citizens to exercise greater caution and follow safety measures to prevent future fires.
