Vienna Waltz took place at Chinggis Square on Friday,
June 10, as part of Austria Week in Ulaanbaatar,
celebrating the Viennese waltz and cultural and
diplomatic ties between Mongolia and Austria.
The Vienna Waltz dance performance has been
organized since 1999, but an expanded cultural program for the
annual event was put in place in 2014 under the Friendly Ulaanbaatar
program.
This year's event brought together around 300 musicians and
dancers, including Mongolian conductors N.Tuulaikhuu, R.Ganbat,
and D.Nyamdash. The Symphony Orchestra of the Mongolian State
Philharmonic, the Ulaanbaatar Ensemble, Dance Sport Federation,
and the band UFO also took part in the event. Representing Austria,
world-renowned conductor and pianist Matthias Fletzberger, violinist
Lidia Baich, and dancer Martin Grund participated in the event with
Mongolian performers.
Austria Week, organized every summer in Ulaanbaatar, introduces
Austrian culture - especially music and dance- to Mongolia and UB’s
students of music. Austrian musicians come to Ulaanbaatar to teach
lessons in classical music and jazz, and also organize master classes
in Viennese waltz. This year’s Austria Week highlights were a jazz
concert performed by the Minarik Trio at Shangri La Hotel on June
7, Vienna Waltz on June 10, and the Vienna Charity Ball at Shangri
La Hotel on the June 11.
