Ice cracks in Khentii Province

In a recent case, a car accident occurred due to cracked river ice in Binder soum of Khentii Province. The crash took place 25 kilometers east-southeast of the soum’s center, 25 kilometers northwest of Bayangol, and 285 kilometers north of the provincial center. Emergency services received the call at 12:30 p.m., with reports stating that a Toyota Prius-20 had fallen through the ice on the river.

Upon receiving the call, emergency personnel from the local department arrived at the scene and successfully rescued the car, which was stuck in the ice.

While most rivers and streams are currently covered in ice, the thickness of the ice varies along different parts of the river. With the weather warming up, the ice is expected to become thinner, increasing the risks of accidents. According to reports, the ice thickness on most rivers and streams is 10 to 60 cm thinner than the usual average for this time of year. In particular, thin ice has been observed on the upper reaches of the Selenge River and along the entire length of the Eg River. Therefore, the National Emergency Management Agency has issued a warning urging people to avoid driving on rivers or lakes and to prevent children from playing in these areas.
