4.6 magnitude earthquake occurred in Dundgovi Province

On February 12, at 5:45 p.m., a powerful earthquake registering 4.6 on the Richter scale struck the Shuuj area of Naiz bag in Saikhan-Ovoo soum, located 179 km west of the provincial capital and 49 km northeast of the soum center in Dundgovi Province.

The Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics sent a notification to the National Emergency Management Agency at 5:08 p.m. the same day, providing details about the earthquake.

According to reports from the local authorities, including the Saikhan-Ovoo soum’s administrative office and the Naiz bag’s local governor, residents felt strong tremors. A herder living in the area mentioned hearing a rumbling sound, followed by their ger and belongings shaking.

The tremors were also felt in several nearby locations, including Erdenedalai soum in Dundgovi Province, and in several soums of Uvurkhangai Province including Arvaikheer, Bayangol, Taragt, Khairkhandulaan, and Uyanga. However, by 8:10 p.m., there were no reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake.
