Over 1,200 workers clear snow in UB

In response to the heavy snowfall that blanketed Ulaanbaatar City on the night of December 23 to 24, the capital city has launched an extensive snow removal operation. Over 1,200 workers from the capital city’s sanitation service companies, along with 35 other organizations, are actively engaged in clearing snow from the streets. The operation is supported by more than 180 specialized vehicles and machinery, ensuring that both main thoroughfares and smaller roads are promptly addressed.

Crews have not only focused on clearing the capital city’s central and auxiliary roads but have also extended their efforts to more remote and peripheral areas of Ulaanbaatar, ensuring that even outlying districts are accessible. To combat hazardous icy conditions, the teams have deployed almost 120 tons of de-icing chemicals and 141.5 tons of salt across the city’s roads and streets.

Despite the challenging conditions, Ulaanbaatar’s stockpile of winter maintenance materials remains robust. As of now, Ulaanbaatar has a reserve of nearly 4,380 tons of salt and over 6,540 tons of de-icing chemicals, which will be used to continue keeping the capital city safe and accessible as winter progresses.

City officials have emphasized that, while snow removal operations are ongoing, residents are urged to be cautious on the roads, particularly in the wake of the ongoing cold snap. The swift and coordinated response from the city’s sanitation services reflects the authorities’ commitment to minimizing the impact of severe winter weather on daily life in Ulaanbaatar.
