Mongol Bank introduced the Apple Pay service in collaboration with Golomt Bank and Trade Development Bank, bringing advanced international payment solutions to Mongolian consumers. This Apple service allows users to make secure payments using Apple devices such as smartphones and smartwatches equipped with the iOS operating system.
With this new service, the citizens can now make international transactions using their local tugrug card for the first time, effectively opening a new gateway for global payments. As part of the efforts to ensure a ready and reliable payment system, the service allows payments at over 150,000 point-of-sale (POS) terminals across the nation, a critical expansion that facilitates seamless payments for both domestic and international transactions.
The integration of Apple Pay with the national payment infrastructure is expected to drive further innovation in the financial sector, enabling Mongolians to seamlessly access global e-commerce and financial services. Looking to the future, the central bank plans to continue its efforts to support the introduction of cutting-edge payment solutions within the country. It also aims to foster innovation in payment technologies by working closely with banks, financial institutions and fintech companies to ensure that Mongolia remains competitive in the rapidly evolving global digital payments landscape.
