Members of the Union of Mongolian Artists, L.Bumandorj and T.Narmandakh began their artistic endeavors in the 1970s and refined their craft in the mid-1980s. As a dynamic duo, they have cultivated a remarkable portfolio while dedicating their lives to nurturing the next generation of artists. With over 30 years of experience, they have served as inspiring mentors, shaping the talents of countless aspiring painters and sculptors, and instilling in them a profound appreciation for the visual arts.
The “Our World” exhibition is especially significant as it encapsulates the culmination of their artistic evolution, marked by an unwavering commitment to authenticity and philosophical depth. In discussing the inspiration behind their exhibition, artist L.Bumandorj reflected, “As a family, we have nurtured our artistic talents in both Mongolia and Germany. Following our graduation, we devoted ourselves to the education field, mentoring students both from our country and abroad. Now, at the ages of 70 and 69, we are thrilled to present our collective artistic journey through the exhibition titled ‘Our World’. The works showcased—including graphics, postmarks, ceramic art, photography, and calligraphy—span our lives from childhood to the present, carefully selected to harmonize with the venue’s atmosphere.”
He further elaborated, “After retiring from our teaching careers in 2013, we set out to explore the beauty of Mongolia. One of the pieces inspired by this journey is my work ‘Plant Composition’ where I celebrate the stunning plants and flowers that grace our landscapes.”
L.Bumandorj also emphasized a remarkable series by artist T.Narmandakh, titled ‘My Homeland’. This collection beautifully captures the essence of each month in Mongolia, with each artwork highlighting significant celebrations and the distinctive charm that defines that specific time of year. He also shared that he runs a club called “Bum Art” where he offers free training in the arts to individuals aged nine to 90. He emphasized, “I will be happy to support anyone who is genuinely passionate about pursuing art.”
As someone who doesn’t see myself as artistic, I was captivated by his perspective on creativity. With a smile, he shared, “You can turn anything into art. Just look at this! I transformed onion skins that my wife was about to throw away into a piece of photo art.”
