‘This is now’ showcases different cultures

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Germany, a vibrant series of artistic and cultural initiatives, “This is now” exhibition is underway, reflecting the deepening ties and mutual respect between the two nations. These works of art serve as a testament to the enduring friendship and shared commitment to cultural exchange, underscoring the role of art as a universal language that transcends borders. Among these initiatives, the RKB Artists’ Association, located in Ruhrland, Essen, Germany has embarked on a groundbreaking cultural exchange program with artists from the Union of Mongolian Artists. The initiative, which was organized in Mongolia from August 18 to September 1, embodies the spirit of collaboration and creativity that defines the relationship between the two countries.

The cultural exchange is not merely a series of events; it is a dynamic platform that fosters collaboration and the cross-pollination of ideas between artists from both countries. By engaging in joint projects, creative research, and exhibitions, Mongolian and German artists are given the opportunity to explore each other’s artistic traditions and contemporary practices. This environment encourages the sharing of techniques, perspectives, and narratives, thereby enriching the artistic landscapes of both nations. The initiative seeks to cultivate deeper intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.

The exhibition itself was a rich showcase of the creative synergy between Mongolia and Germany, featuring a diverse array of 58 artworks that include paintings, installations, photographs, mixed media, and digital art. The collection, created by 11 Mongolian and 12 German artists, offered a captivating glimpse into the varied and evolving art scenes of both countries. Each piece on display served as a narrative thread, weaving together the unique histories, cultures, and artistic visions of the participating artists. This exhibition goes beyond mere aesthetics; it was a celebration of the vibrant tapestry of cultural exchange and the shared human experience. It highlights how art can act as a powerful conduit for dialogue, empathy, and connection, reminding us of the universal themes that bind us all.

When asked about her experience at the exhibition, artist Anabel Jujol expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I’m incredibly excited for this exhibition, which beautifully blends the artistic traditions of Mongolia and Germany through the diverse perspectives of participating artists. The exhibition is not only visually stunning and adventurous but also deeply meaningful; the context and the moments shared among the artists have been truly precious and inspiring.”

Anabel also highlighted several works that particularly resonated with her, drawing attention to a piece by Mongolian artist Nandin-Erdene titled “My Child”. She explained, “This artwork captures the freedom of children to express themselves and move as they wish within our society, reflecting a profound message about individuality and autonomy.” She also praised the evocative photographs of Wolfgang Kleber, noting that “They illustrate the contradictions present in everyday life, especially towards individuals striving to live authentically and freely.” The artist emphasized that these artworks collectively offer a powerful commentary on the universal human desire for freedom and self-expression, making the exhibition a thought-provoking and culturally enriching experience.

Moreover, through this exhibition, the two nations reaffirmed their commitment to fostering cultural diplomacy, showcasing the transformative power of art in building bridges and strengthening international ties. As the artworks speak to each other across the gallery space, they invited viewers to reflect on the beauty of collaboration and the endless possibilities that arise when cultures meet and create together. This celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations is not just a look back at shared history; it was a forward-looking testament to the potential of future partnerships grounded in mutual respect, artistic exploration, and the enduring bond between Mongolia and Germany.
