Morin khuur concert dedicated for Yo-Yo Ma

Composer Kh.Munkh-Yertunts created a morin khuur (horse-head fiddle) concert for famous American cellist Yo-Yo Ma. This work has two parts, and it is a story about how the lifespan of Mother Earth is shortened due to people’s inappropriate interaction with nature, and the danger of the destruction of the world and humanity is getting closer.

Kh.Munkh-Yertunts worked as a music theory and composition teacher at the Music and Dance College. He completed postgraduate study at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia. He has been writing solo compositions since graduating from the Conservatory named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov in St. Petersburg in 2009 as a composer. When he was a student, he participated in the British BBC TV program “The Succession of D. Shostakovich” with a piano. In 2011, Kh.Munkh-Yertunts won the grand prize for the composition “Concert Rhapsody” for zither in the competition announced for the 50th anniversary of the beginning of Mongolian plucked zither music lessons’ establishment. Moreover, he was a grand prize winner of the Goo Maral in 2013 and the Morin Khuur Festival in 2018.
