Polling to be held to resolve issue of 2 DP chairs

The Democratic Party (DP) reported on Monday that the party’s Congress will convene on November 5 to unite split factions.

Last March, split DP factions held separate chairperson elections and elected two chairs. In particular, M.Tulgat and lawmaker O.Tsogtgerel were both elected as DP chairs.

Member of DP E.Bat-Uul thanked the two chairs of the party for their active participation in the process of unification and called on Ts.Elbegdorj, Kh.Battulga, N.Altankhuyag, S.Erdene, M.Enkhsaikhan and R.Gonchigdorj to rejoin the party and lead DP to victory in the 2024 elections.

Noting that representatives of all generations of the party have gathered to put an end to DP’s downfall and defeat, O.Tsogtgerel said, “DP is going through a difficult time. The party was formed by the will of Mongolians for gaining freedom. Therefore, DP must be revived. The ruling Mongolian People’s Party has a policy of keeping other parties ‘small’. Mongolia’s independence is inextricably linked to parliamentary governance. Parliamentary governance is based on a multi-party system. It is based on two major parties by international standards.”

“DP’s internal affairs concern the Mongolian state and its independence. Therefore, we have decided to convene a DP Reconciliation Congress on November 5, the birthday of Chinggis Khaan. In accordance with the party’s rule, polling will be held to resolve the issue of the two DP chairs. Its winner and loser will accept the results and treat each other respectfully,” he added.

M.Tulgat stressed that opposition voices are needed to point out the wrong policies and decisions, and the irresponsibility of the authorities.

He also commented, “It is time for DP to be an opposition with political culture. The current situation of the party stemmed from DP’s rule over the last 20 years. This Reconciliation Congress will become a very important event in the history of DP. In the future, the whole party must agree on the rules and regulations.”

Members of the National Policy Committee of DP signed an official letter expressing support for the DP Congress.
