Following former Member of Parliament S.Oyun’s appeal to reinvestigate the case, an appeal will be heard on March 14 for the individuals convicted for the murder of S.Zorig. The case of the murder of the 36-year-old hero of the democratic revolution, S.Zorig, was closed 18 years after the day of the homicide. The court's final sessions were closed and took place for five days. On December 27, 2016, the court sentenced Ts.Amgalanbaatar, B.Sodnomdarjaa, and T.Chimgee with prison terms of 25, 24, and 25 years respectively for aggravated and premeditated murder with intent to cover up another murder. Unsatisfied with the results of the trial, S.Zorig’s sister, S.Oyun demanded that the General Prosecutors Office re-investigate the case and find the mastermind behind the murder. General Prosecutor M.Enkh-Amgalan took quick action, and in early January, ordered a working group to thoroughly investigate the possibility of a more prominent figure being behind the murder. The family members of Ts.Amgalanbaatar, B.Sodnomdarjaa, and T.Chimgee are hopeful that the Appeals Court will overturn the guilty verdicts issued by the Criminal Court. In the past, they had expressed strong dissatisfaction with the court's decision through press conferences and interviews.
