State Honored Athlete M.Urantsetseg became the first Mongolian judoka to win a gold medal at Tokyo Grand Slam following her victory in the women’s 48 kg event last week. TheTokyo Grand Slap took place in Japan from December 2 to 4. On the first day of the tournament, former world champion M.Urantsetseg fought against South Korean judoka Jeong Bo-Kyeong in the final match. M.Urantsetseg won a gold medal through shido penalties. M.Urantsetseg faced Jeong Bo-Kyeong seven times before, and won six times. M.Urantsetseg won a silver medal from Tokyo Grand Slam in 2013 and came in seventh place in 2015. In the women’s 48 kg event, Mongolian-born Kazakhstan judoka M.Otgontsetseg came in fifth place. G.Otgontsetseg has participated in 13 international tournaments in 2016, and this is the first time that she left the tatami without a medal this year. In the women’s 57 kg event, Olympic silver medalist D.Sumiya won a bronze medal after defeating Helene Receveaux of France. Mongolia judoka D.Altansukh, who fought in the men’s 66 kg event, seized a bronze medal. He beat Japanese Norihito Isoda in the bronze medal match. A total of 287 judokas from 41 countries challenged themselves at the Tokyo Grand Slam 2016.
