The Asian Schools Chess Championship 2024 took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from December 3 to 11, with Mongolian players making a strong impression. This year, three Mongolian athletes earned medals in the main event. In the seven-year-old boys’ category, U.Ukhaanbileg from the “Khutagtiin Melmii” Club in Dornogovi Province claimed a gold medal. In the 11-year-old boys’ category, Ts.Anand from the “Bosoo Noyon” Club also secured a gold medal, while B.Tselmeg from the “Gegeen Arvai” Club won a silver medal in the seven-year-old girls’ category.
In addition, two Mongolian players shone in the rapid chess format. The competition, conducted in the Swiss system over seven rounds, included players ranging from six to 17 years old. An athlete, Kh.Ulziikhishig from the “ABChess” academy earned a silver medal in the boys’ six to 17 years old category, while A.Maral from the “Aldar” Sports Club brought home a bronze medal in the 14-15 year-old girls’ category.
The championship concluded with the blitz (rapid) games, which determined the final winners. The event marked another significant achievement for Mongolian youth in the international chess arena, highlighting the country’s growing prominence in the sport.
