Almost 1,000 kids hospitalized due to flu-like illnesses in UB

The Ministry of Health and relevant officials held a press conference to discuss the current situation of flu and flu-like illnesses. “We categorize the prevalence of flu and flu-like illnesses into five levels. As of the 43rd week of this year, the level of flu activity nationwide is at the yellow level,” stated Ch.Urtnasan, an infectious disease researcher from the National Influenza Unit of the National Center for Communicable Diseases.

As we reported recently, officials noted that 46 percent of those affected are children under the age of five. Additionally, they reported a trend of increased flu cases among children aged five to nine compared to the same period last year. As of November 3, more than 900 children are hospitalized in hospitals across the capital city due to flu, with approximately 85 percent diagnosed with acute respiratory infections and severe forms of the disease, according to the Ministry of Health.

Therefore, they urged the public to strictly adhere to infection prevention measures until the flu season is over. Currently, about 200 additional beds have been set up in the capital city, while the situation in rural areas remains stable. The most effective preventive measure against seasonal flu is vaccination and maintaining hand hygiene, according to pediatric consultant T.Navchaa. She explained, “Immunity develops 14 days after vaccination and lasts for six months. Parents often say their child has become ill despite being vaccinated. Vaccination is a form of prevention against severe illness, so it is safe.”
