The Ministry of Construction and Urban Development organized a conference on “Safe Construction, Safe Environment, and Safe Operation” in Orkhon Province, with the participation of management personnel, employees, enterprises, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and professional associations from the construction industry of 21 provinces.
At that event, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection discussed the state’s policies on occupational safety and health, prevention of potential accidents and injuries in the construction industry, their causes and conditions, protection of the life and health of employees, occupational safety and health standards in the workplace, meeting the requirements, creating conditions for working and living in a healthy and safe environment for employers and citizens, as well as the violations revealed by the inspection conducted in 2023 and the issues to be considered in the future.
In connection with the rapid development of buildings and construction work, the number of industrial accidents in the construction industry is not decreasing, and there are many problems such as the death of people and loss of work ability. Nationwide, 180 industrial accidents were registered in the construction sector in the last five years. Considering the causes of accidents, 39.4 percent of all accidents were caused by falling from a height, stumbling, slipping, 16.6 percent by being trapped by objects, and 16.1 percent by being hit by falling objects.
The fact that most of the enterprises and organizations operating in the construction industry do not follow and implement the laws, standards, rules, and regulations on Occupational Health and Safety in their operations, do not employ Occupational Health and Safety employees, offices, and departments with adequate number, do not have stable full-time employees, and hire temporary subcontractors and workers in the field, do not spend necessary funds for safety preventive measures, and do not implement a safety and health management system, are the main causes of industrial accidents in this industry, damaging the life and health of employees.
This conference was important for the development of the construction industry, the improvement of the occupational safety and health conditions of construction workers, and the prevention of industrial accidents and acute poisoning to create a healthy and safe workplace.
