A seminar was recently organized to introduce the reforms of the Geological and Mining Information System and the Unified Unified Mining Cadastre System to licensed enterprises in the mining sector. The Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority has been collaborating with the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) of the Federal Republic of Germany since 2014, with numerous successful and innovative projects implemented over the past decade.
One of the key projects, the Sustainable Mineral Resources Management Consulting Service Project, which started on April 1, 2022, is nearing completion in the first quarter of this year. The project has been designed to enhance the professional capacity of the authority, provide technical assistance, digitize operations and make public services offered to both citizens and businesses more transparent and accessible. A major focus has been the improvement of the Mining Cadastre Computerized System or mineral license registration and the Geology and Mining Information System for the management of exploration operations, plans and reports.
These developments align with the objectives of Mongolia’s e-development initiatives, including Vision 2050, the New Revitalization Policy, and the e-Governance Program. The key activities carried out under this project include improvement of the Mining Cadastre Computerized System. Moreover, a new service for delivering license payment notifications via text message has been introduced, along with the digitization of personal license files, creating an electronic archive system and establishing connections with other government agencies to facilitate seamless information exchange.
On top of that, in cooperation with BGR, the Geological and Mining Information System was first implemented in 2016, and has since undergone significant improvements. These include the introduction of digital signatures, the electronic submission and review of annual reports and exploration activity plans, technical and economic feasibility studies, and exploration results. These reforms have brought about considerable advancements in the efficiency, transparency, and security of public services within the mining sector. They contribute to the broader goal of modernizing Mongolia’s mining management systems and promoting sustainable resource use.
