A wide variety of events and activities to promote effective parenting and traditional Mongolian games to improve children’s intellect is taking place across Ulaanbaatar today on International Children’s Day.

Mongolia celebrates International Children’s Day, also known as Women and Children’s Day, every year on June 1 to show appreciation for mothers and children throughout the country and to promote their rights and wellbeing. Fifteen different types of traditional Mongolian games and toys, including ankle bone games, riddles, puzzles, and board games, will be introduced to parents and children at Sukhbaatar Square on June 1, as this year’s theme for Children’s Day will center on the unique characteristics of Mongolian children, the Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office reported. For this year’s celebration, the State Academic Theater of Drama is planning to debut six brand new mascots inspired by traditional Mongolian games. “We plan to bring new mascots for traditional games to life. This will become the highlight of this year’s Children’s Day, as I’m confident that children will like them very much,” said Director S.Bold-Erdene, who is orchestrating the activities and productions of the State Academic Theater of Drama for Children’s Day. During Children’s Day, streets on the east and west side of Sukhbaatar Square will be temporarily closed from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Amar Street will be closed for a children’s parade. The Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office has approved permits for around 80 companies and individuals to sell items at during the event. The Ulaanbaatar Traffic Police Department announced that police officers will patrol the city on Children's Day to ensure order and safety during different public events.

• Bayanzurkh District: festival at the Bayanzurkh District Cultural Palace at 11:00 a.m. and smaller events around khoroos
• Bayangol District: event for children outside of UB Palace at 12:00 p.m.
• Bayangol District: parade from Mongolian Railway College to UB Palace, 12:30 p.m.

June 1

• Bagakhangai and Baganuur districts: special events for children at Sukhbaatar Square, 10:00 a.m.
