The Mungun Ulaanbaatar (Silver Ulaanbaatar) sport and snow festival, promoting physical exercise and winter sports to help develop winter tourism, took place on February 4 at UB Resort at Khui Doloon Khudag. The staff of city agency and district offices were joined by over 10,000 Ulaanbaatar residents for a day of healthy activity. Olympic silver medalist D.Sumiya was invited to light the Mungun Ulaanbaatar torch. For the festival’s opening ceremony, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold said, “Ulaanbaatar is located in a cold weather zone. We are working to develop winter sports in Ulaanbaatar. Khui Doloon Khudag will be a place to gather during all seasons, not only in the summer for Naadam.” The Mayor’s Office hosted the “Happy Ulaanbaatar” competition during the festival, challenging people to create snow sculptures and structures. More than 5,600 people from 56 organizations participated in the competition, and five teams were selected for the final round. Ulaanbaatar Investment Agency won the competition, followed by the team from the Ulaanbaatar Urban Planning Agency, and the team from the Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office. Photos from the event.
