Mongolian yokozuna (grand champion) of Japanese professional sumo Hakuho M.Davaajargal claimed his 1,000th victory during the Kyushu Basho (November tournament) on November 15.
Currently, Hakuho M.Davaajargal now ranks third among professional sumo wrestlers with the most victories in the sport’s history.
Japanese former professional sumo wrestler ozeki Kaio is ranked first with 1,047 wins and yokozuna Chiyonofuji holds second place with 1,045 wins.
After earning his 1,000th win, Hakuho said, “I want to share my happiness with all Mongolians. A son of Mongolia has reached the same level as two legendary Japanese sumo champions. A thousand wins are a result of my hard work. I have overcome so many difficulties, pain and injuries to achieve today’s success. I am happy that I am sharing my glory with Mongolians living all over the world and sumo enthusiasts. I will work harder in the future.”
