Harumafuji D.Byambadorj wins Emperor’s Cup at July’s tournament

The 70th Yokozuna of professional Japanese sumo Harumafuji D.Byambadorj of Mongolia defeated fellow Mongolian Yokozuna Hakuho M.Davaajargal on Sunday at the July Grand Sumo Tournament, or Nagoya Basho, and seized his eighth Emperor’s Cup. Harumafuji D.Byambadorj gained 13 wins and two loses during the tournament. “I’ve been fortunate here. I love the people of Nagoya,” said Harumafuji after claiming the cup. “I’ve been dealing with a lot of injuries lately, but I was able to win because of my sta- ble master’s help and the support of sumo-loving fans. I felt like I could really put every- thing on the line in every bout, every day,” he added. The most competitive bout of the Nagoya Basho was between Harumafuji D.Byambadorj and ozeki Kisenosato. The Japan Sumo Association promised to give the Yokozuna title to ozeji Kisenosato if he had won the Emperor’s Cup of the July Grand Sumo Tournament. Kisenosato ended the Nagoya Basho with 12 wins and three loses.
