This year’s Star of Fame will be awarded to Haranga, one of Mongolia’s first hard rock bands, on July 30, at Chinggis Square. The Star of Fame award ceremony was first organized on July 30, 2015, by former Mayor of Ulaanbaatar E.Bat-Uul to honor singers or bands who have made great contributions to the development of Mongolian rock and pop music. The first Star of Fame went to Soyol-Erdene. Founder of Khonkhnii Duu (Bell Ring) Club and Ulaanbaatar City Mayor S.Batbold held a press conference about the Star of Fame on July 20, and noted that Ineemseglel, Urguu, and Haranga bands were nominated for the award. Khonkhnii Duu Club will present the members of Haranga with 100 million MNT during a ceremony held on July 30, at 1:00 p.m. at Chinggis Square. A concert of honor for Haranga will be performed at Chinggis Square at 9:00 p.m. that evening. Haranga was founded in 1989, as the first Mongolian hard rock group, and has been performing in Mongolia since the early 1990s. In 1997, the group recorded two CDs in Germany. The band has five members: Ts.Enkhmanlai (band leader, solo guitarist), Ts.Chuluunbat (bass guitarist), Kh.Lkhagvasuren (lead singer), Ya.Odsuren (rhythm guitarist), and N.Purevdash (drummer). Haranga on stage[/caption] The following is an interview with Head of the Ulaanbaatar Arts and Culture Department B.Battsengel about the concert of honor.   What will happen during the Star of Fame award ceremony?  The Star of Fame award ceremony is one of the largest events being organized under the Friendly Ulaanbaatar program. We will open the Star of Fame podium on July 30, in front of the Central Cultural Palace, to glorify artists and bands who have made valuable contributions to the world of rock and pop in Mongolia. We know the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but it is not proper to put a Star of Fame on the ground. That is why we will mount the Stars of Fame on podiums. Designed by a professional sculptor, we use a diamond shape instead of a star. On the night of July 30, a tribute concert to Haranga will be performed at Chinggis Square. Which artists will perform at the concert?  The Ulaanbaatar Arts and Culture Department is organizing the concert. Composer and producer N.Khaliun is general director of the concert. During the concert, Haranga will perform its hit songs. All the stars of Mongolian rock and pop music will participate in the concert. The concert will include so many surprises.
