151 khoroo buildings to open Wi-Fi hotspots

The opening of wireless internet zones in 155 locations in all 151 khoroo buildings throughout Ulaanbaatar was held on June 6. Some khoroo buildings in Khan-Uul, Songinokhairkhan, Sukhbaatar, and Bayanzurkh Districts have been connected to wireless internet. All 151 khoroo buildings in Ulaanbaatar are expected to be connected through Wi-Fi within this month. The Ulaanbaatar Information Technology Office initiated the project to install wireless internet in Ulaanbaatar through the Smart Ulaanbaatar program. The opening was attended by Chairman of the City Council D.Battulga, General Manager of Ulaanbaatar B.Badral, Chief of Staff to the Mayor Yo.Gerelchuluun, Head of the Ulaanbaatar Information Technology Office B.Bat-Ulzii, and Head of the Budget, Finance and Economics Department of the City Council D.Khurelbaatar. "Today marks another memorable day in Ulaanbaatar. The project connecting all khoroos to wireless internet, or Wi-Fi, has launched. "Previously, people had to go to their khoroo buildings to get state service. You all know that we are now going to state service centers in Dunjingarav, Misheel, and Dragon Centers. And now, by establishing Wi-Fi hotspots at all khoroo buildings, people can connect to the internet 100 meters away from their khoroo buildings, and get state service," said D.Battulga. He added that by implementing this project, Ulaanbaatar is one step closer to becoming a "smart" city that reaches the standard of developed countries. By connecting to Wi-Fi of their khoroos, citizens gain access to fast state service, to information, and they will be able to send requests, complaints, petitions, and applications directly to city administrators. The khoroo Wi-Fi hotspots enable extremely fast connection to state owned websites; such as www.ulaanbaatar.mn, where domestic news is provided without any fees; www.land.ulaanbaatar.mn, an online land ownership system; www. manaikhoroo.mn, an integrated database of Ulaanbaatar geographical information; eabi.ub.gov.mn, where people can access the environmental safety index; www. data.ulaanbaatar.mn, an open data portal of Ulaanbaatar; and www.smartcar.mn, an integrated system of auto vehicles. They also allow free browsing through the internet. To connect to the wireless internet, citizens can register after connecting to the network called "UBWifi". If residents have registered for land ownership in the city and for summer camp lands before, they can use their previous registration logins.
