Ulaanbaatar's Car Free Day is being held on Saturday, June 4, during the 2016 Ulaanbaatar Marathon organized by the Friendly Ulaanbaatar program.
Sports and arts events and competitions will take place on the city's closed roads. Large sections of roads from Western Intersection to Eastern Intersection, including Baga Toiruu, Peace Avenue, Seoul Street, Beijing Street, Ankara Street, and Sambuu Street will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The routes of public transportation vehicles with stops on car free roads will be redirected on June 4, making stops on Ikh Toiruu Street in the north, and Sun Road and Namiyanju Street in the south. Trolleybuses from Tavan Shar to Botanik, Botanik to Vokzal, and from the 3rd and 4th microdistricts to Officer's Palace will not operate on June 4. Large markets and trade centers in the area will also be closed.
The international Ulaanbaatar Marathon will start from Chinggis Square with a route stretching more than 42 kilometers around the nation's capital. This is the marathon's third year and offers runners registration in four categories. Registration for the 2016 marathon closed on June 2.
