‘Climate finance initiatives aim to improve business environment’

The Mongolian Business Council and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change jointly organized a high-level session titled “Post-COP: Business and Investment Opportunities” on January 31, bringing together key stakeholders from the government, private sector and international organizations to discuss Mongolia’s climate goals and investment potential.

The event focused on climate policy, green finance, and carbon market development, providing a platform for experts to exchange insights on sustainable development and international cooperation.

Advisor to the President for Project Program Coordination and Civil Society Policy B.Javkhlan chaired the panel discussion, which featured notable participants including Australian Ambassador to Mongolia Katie Smith, European Union Ambassador Ina Marciulionyte, Italian Ambassador Giovanna Piccarreta, and Head of the Preparatory Office for COP17 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs N.Chimguundari. The panelists shared perspectives on post-COP international climate investment trends and opportunities for Mongolia.

During the discussion, Advisor B.Javkhlan reiterated Mongolia’s commitment to climate action, referencing President U.Khurelsukh’s speech at the World Leaders’ Summit on Climate Change. He highlighted Mongolia’s climate finance initiatives and ongoing reforms aimed at improving the business environment for sustainable investments.

Panelists emphasized the crucial role of the private sector in implementing green solutions and investing in sustainable projects. They underscored the importance of business engagement in adopting best practices for environmental sustainability.

The session was organized in anticipation of Mongolia’s first-time hosting of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17) in 2026, marking a significant step in the country’s commitment to addressing climate challenges and fostering international collaboration.
