Strategies for achieving sustainable development goals discussed with international organizations

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) subcommittee of the parliament held a significant meeting to foster dialogue and collaboration with international and donor organizations. The event featured representatives from various international bodies, including ambassadors from different countries, the United Nations, UNDP, the Delegation of the European Union to Mongolia, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and World Health Organization.

The Chairwoman of the Subcommittee and Member of Parliament B.Munkhsoyol, highlighted the importance of the meeting in strengthening multilateral cooperation for the successful implementation of the SDGs. She emphasized that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted in 2015, addresses critical areas of social life, including poverty reduction, quality education, healthcare, gender equality, and climate change. However, B.Munkhsoyol underscored that the most pressing issue remains the development and protection of children, who are often disproportionately affected by these challenges.

She pointed out that policies related to economic and social welfare have not fully achieved their intended results and are placing a significant strain on the national budget. Additionally, children from low-income families face violations of their rights to health, education, and a safe environment. This, B.Munkhsoyol noted, creates an urgent need for more detailed research and data-driven policies that prioritize the needs of children and citizens.

During the discussion, participants shared their regional and international experiences and offered recommendations on how to adapt global best practices to Mongolia's unique context. They also discussed the development of a methodology to assess the alignment of current policies and plans with the SDGs.

The meeting provided a platform for international partners and Mongolian stakeholders to join forces and strategize on how best to achieve the SDGs, ensuring that future policies and initiatives better serve the needs of the country's most vulnerable populations.

The event concluded with a commitment from all parties to continue collaboration and support the development of child- and citizen-friendly policies in Mongolia.
