The Agency for Land Administration and Management, Geodesy, and Construction is taking proactive measures to prevent potential flooding risks in Ulaanbaatar City by monitoring and reinforcing flood protection structures across 14 critical locations. These measures include precise monitoring of water levels at bridge and road infrastructure, dredging, and ice removal and transportation.
J.Batdorj, a Field Engineer from the agency, provided an update on the current flood prevention measures. He explained that on December 17 of the previous year, linear markers were installed at the Tolgoitiin Canal in the 26th khoroo of Songinokhairkhan District, as part of ongoing flood monitoring efforts. Since then, the ice level has risen by one meter and 17 centimeters. He also noted that similar measurements were taken at other critical sites, such as the third canal in the “Denjiin 1000” area of Chingeltei District, where the ice level has increased by one meter and 30 centimeters, and at the Selbe River, where the ice level has risen by 30 centimeters. These measurements help guide the necessary flood prevention actions for the coming weeks.
Furthermore, engineers and technical staff continue to monitor the ice levels on a daily basis, making it possible to assess the situation and plan necessary actions for the following week based on the measurements. These efforts help ensure that flood prevention protocols are up-to-date and effectively mitigate any risks of flooding as the season progresses.
Through these proactive measures, the agency is striving to safeguard infrastructure and the public from potential water-related disasters, ensuring that every necessary step is taken to prevent damage caused by rising water levels and ice accumulation.
