45-day teacher training program to commence

In response to a nationwide shortage of over 4,200 teachers, as reported by Minister of Education P.Naranbayar last September, the Ministry of Education has initiated a controversial 45-day training program aimed at fast-tracking teacher certification to fill the gap, as we reported in our previous issues. Despite public backlash, the training program is set to commence, with registration open until November 22.

The Mongolian National Institute for Educational Research has conducted evaluations, partnering with Mongolian National University of Education (MNUE), Ulaanbaatar-Erdem University, the Educational University of the University of Finance and Economics, Orkhon University, and Otgontenger University. According to T.Nyam-Ochir, Head of the General Department of Education, approximately 3,200 out of the needed 4,217 teaching positions have already been filled.

Registration for the training will be held at the central campus of MNUE. Eligible applicants must meet specific criteria, including a minimum GPA of 2.7, no prior criminal convictions, strong Mongolian language skills (both spoken and written), and no history of mental illness.
