Teaching assistants introduced to support primary education needs

Starting from October, 28 teaching assistants have been employed in schools across the country. According to the Law on Support of Teacher Development, teaching assistants are to be hired for first and second-grade classes with more than 44 students. Moreover, the Law on Preschool and General Education specifies the employment of teaching assistants based on the diverse needs of students. Of the 28 teaching assistants currently employed nationwide, 12 are working with children who have special needs, while 16 are assisting in primary classes with 44 or more students.

For example, two teaching assistants are working at School No. 105 in Ulaanbaatar City. One of the teaching assistants, who has been employed at the school for the second year, shared, “I am a trained teacher of history and social studies. I faced difficulties in finding suitable employment because my child is on the autism spectrum. However, by working as a teaching assistant, I now have the opportunity to help both my own child and others.”

The presence of teaching assistants has proven to be a valuable support, easing the workload of lead teachers and aiding in the development of children with special needs. Furthermore, the Mongolian National University of Education offers training programs for preparing teaching assistants.
