Center for tourism and local artisanship established in Umnugovi Province

Umnugovi Province took a major step to boost local household production, improve residents’ livelihoods, and promote goods embodying the province’s unique character to both domestic and international tourists last year. Adjacent to the Local Government Organization of the province, the “Made in Umnugovi” Center was established to showcase the province’s artisanal crafts and goods. Building on this initiative, a Tourist Information Center has also launched within the facility, offering travelers a one-stop source for essential information and insights about the area.

The center is a comprehensive resource where visitors to the Gobi region can explore locally-made products, traditional crafts, and essential tourism information all in one place. The creation of the center was made possible through the support of the Umnugovi Governor’s Office, the Department of Environment and Tourism, and the “Wonders of the Gobi” Tourism Association, highlighting the collaborative effort to enrich the tourism infrastructure.

The Department of Environment and Tourism noted the center’s importance, stating, “As a key tourism destination, Umnugovi needed a central Tourist Information Center. This facility allows local hotels, guest houses, tourist camps, restaurants, guides, drivers, artisans, and car rental services to promote their offerings directly to the visitors.”

While a dedicated phone line for information services has not yet been launched, plans are in place to develop remote information services, offer advisory assistance, and feature major travel routes in the Gobi region. This initiative promises to elevate the tourism experience in Umnugovi Province, enhancing accessibility to local products and services for tourists, and fostering deeper engagement with the unique cultural and natural heritage of the region.
