As a result of recent small snowfall in some regions, hazardous icy conditions can develop on the roads. To mitigate the risk of ice forming on sidewalks and roadways, salt and other de-icing substances are routinely applied. Unfortunately, last winter, the inadequate application of these materials led to a troubling rise in icy conditions throughout the capital city’s streets and public spaces, which in turn resulted in a significant number of injuries and accidents.

In light of these challenges, the capital city officials have emphasized that preparations for this winter have been substantially bolstered compared to the previous year. As part of these comprehensive winter readiness efforts, the capital has strategically stockpiled 4,735 tons of salt and 2,366 tons of additional de-icing agents. Moreover, the municipal maintenance team has expanded its fleet by adding 83 units of equipment and vehicles. This upgrade in machinery not only enhances operational efficiency but also significantly reduces the workload for maintenance personnel, enabling them to respond more promptly and effectively to the severe weather challenges posed by winter.
