Food safety inspections target outdoor markets

The government agency responsible for food safety, and agriculture is actively inspecting vendors selling fruits, vegetables, and mobile food services in open areas across all nine districts in the capital city. Since the inspections began on September 3, a total of 206 businesses and individuals have been checked. Of these, 39 were found to be in violation. In particular, five individuals were selling food products that were past their expiration dates, leading to the seizure of eight types of food items. In addition, seven businesses and individuals were fined 5.2 million MNT. The operations of three vendors selling food on public roads and open spaces have also been halted.

During the inspections, 18 samples of potatoes and other vegetables sold in open markets were collected and sent to the National Reference Laboratory for Food Safety for testing for contaminants, pesticide residues, and nitrates. Furthermore, 23 businesses and individuals have been issued official warnings with deadlines to comply with food safety regulations and legal requirements. The inspections are ongoing.
