23% more tourists arrived in August

In August, the Mongolian Tourism Association reported that the country welcomed nearly 140,000 tourists. This represents a 23-percent increase compared to the same period last year. As a result, the total number of tourists who visited Mongolia in the first eight months of this year has surpassed 576,000. In contrast, during the same period in 2023, Mongolia received over 651,000 tourists. This year, the number of visitors has decreased by 11.5 percent, achieving only 57.6 percent of the targeted level as a whole.

Moreover, experts attribute the decline in tourist numbers compared to last year to factors such as the accessibility and cost of air travel, as well as the impact of the 33th Olympic Games, which influenced traveler movement and flows. In Mongolia, the peak tourist season typically spans from June to August. This year, the goal was to reach 425,000 tourists during this period. However, the country welcomed 380,900 visitors, fulfilling 89.6 percent of the planned target.
