The UB Post has published over 1,580 issues in the 20 years since it was first published on May 6, 1996. In its first year, the newspaper published 34 issues, releasing one four-page issue per week. Two years after its first issue, The UB Post started sharing online content, and in 2010 it started an online subscription system. The newspaper has grown from a four to a 12-page newspaper. In the last 20 years, The UB Post has grown to reach 20,000 individuals weekly, providing a foreign and domestic audience with quality news, and helping many Mongolians learn and improve their English. September 20, 2001, Issue No.279 This issue’s main story was the September 11 terrorist attack in New York City, reporting that Mongolia had pledged support to the U.S. The newspaper included an “Inside” menu in the left corner with five article headlines in almost six different fonts. Starting in 2001, the newspaper was published weekly with eight pages. October 24, 2002, Issue No.336 The UB Post began printing pages in color starting from 2002. In the beginning, only banners were in color, shifting through blue, orange, light pink, maroon, orange, and green backgrounds. This issue features a main story story about 100,000 illegal miners who had come to be known as “ninjas”. The miners carried large, green bowls on their backs, resembling the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, helping the “ninja” moniker stick. The issue included issues still challenging Mongolia today, such as gender equality, debates about the state budget, tourism, and press freedom. The UB Post was printed in full color starting from 2005. July 3, 2008, Issue No.632 Starting from 2008, the newspaper (still four pages) started being published twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. December 21, 2010, Issue No.844 In 2010, the UB Post went through major design changes. The banner background was a horizon of maroon, green, and burnt orange. This issue reported on the possibility of a dzud, an expected increase in electricity prices, and the appointment of Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi’s new board members. December 21, 2011, Issue No.958 In 2011, the newspaper started to be published three times a week and expanded to 12 pages. May 30, 2012, Issue No.1,021 The UB Post adopted its current layout in 2012. The third Mongolian to conquer Mt. Everest, S.Bat-Erdene, was featured as the main article. Below the main story was an article about tickets for a concert by Pitbull going on sale, a concert that never ended up taking place.
