Increase in online fraud recorded

As the use of digital technologies increases, online shopping is becoming more prevalent. However, there has been a rise in reported cases of online fraud recently, according to the police. Since the beginning of this year, there have been over 5,900 reported cases of fraud, with 3,674 being related to digital fraud. Of these, 1,131 cases are associated with online shopping.

Cyber fraudsters often entice individuals by offering goods and products at prices significantly lower than the market rate or advertising substantial discounts. They might also create a sense of urgency by claiming that stock is running low or that free delivery is available if the payment is completed promptly.

To protect yourself, it is advised not to transfer payment if you have not received the ordered goods or services. Always ensure that the seller is identifiable and that you are purchasing from an official website or page. Verify the legitimacy of the individual or website before making any transactions. The police also emphasize the importance of checking whether the personal information and website you are dealing with are official and genuine.
