Allergy season kicks off

Researcher at the National Center for Public Health D.Ganbolor gave the following recommendations on how to pay attention to food during allergy season. At the beginning of his talk, he said that food allergy is the result of an abnormal reaction of the body’s immune system against certain proteins contained in food.

Symptoms of food allergy include skin rash, redness, swelling, itching, swelling of the cheeks, lips, tongue or any part of the body, itchy mouth and throat, and shortness of breath. Causes and influencing factors of allergies can be the nutrition consisting of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, various vitamins, water and minerals. Food allergies are resistant to the action of digestive enzymes and acidic environment, stable at high temperatures, and soluble in water. Also, adults are often allergic to seafood, fish, octopus, peanuts, walnuts, sunflower seeds, and tree nuts. The main foods that cause allergies in children are eggs, milk, soy, and various nuts. Foods that should not be used or eaten in case of allergies are eggs and products containing eggs, spicy, grilled smoked sausage, soda, juice, liquor, wine, beer, coffee, chocolate, honey, cakes, lemon and orange. In addition, the researcher advised not to eat strawberries, raspberries, apricots, peaches, pomegranates, grapes, sea buckthorn, kiwi, watermelon, canned products, pressed vegetables, seafood, cheese, mayonnaise, in case of allergic reactions.

About herbal allergies, chenopodium album and flowering plants are grown from July 20 to August 30, as a result the allergies intensify. He further explained, “If you are allergic to plants, beware of watermelon, sunflower seeds, halva, mayonnaise, melon, pumpkin, mustard, sunflower oil, ginger, aniseed, alcohol and alcoholic beverages”. Allergies depend on the living environment. If there is a lot of pollution or smoke, dust, dirt, or plants in the specific area, it is better to avoid that environment as much as possible. In such an environment, allergies are likely to develop. By getting tested and knowing what your allergies are, you can protect yourself from the products and environments that cause allergies. Also, if an allergic reaction is detected, it is necessary to see a specialist to prevent the allergy from worsening,” said the researcher, D.Ganbolor.

Moreover, according to a study conducted by the allergists, it was estimated that one in every five people in Mongolia has some type of allergy.
