The Mongolian peacekeepers serving in the Republic of South Sudan created a commemorative model of the BTR-80 (an 8×8 wheeled amphibious armored personnel carrier designed in the Soviet Union), which is the main weapon that the peacekeepers carry. The most interesting thing is that everything, even the detailed work, was created only with iron, by welding and by using special techniques. This creative work was completed by Chief T.Gantulga (330), Chief M.Ganzorig (Division No. 065), Chief Ch.Daajamba (National Rescue Brigade under NEMA) within two months. 

Mongolia first joined United Nations peacekeeping in 2002 with the deployment of two unarmed military observers to the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara.  The country then sent two more officers to the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In 2006, Mongolia made its first sizable contribution to UN peacekeeping when it deployed 250 military personnel to the UN Mission in Liberia, a West African country that was recovering from a violent civil war. Six years later, Mongolia undertook its largest deployment to date when it sent a full battalion of 850 troops to the UN Mission in South Sudan, where they continue to play an important role in protecting civilians. Throughout its decades of history in UN peacekeeping, Mongolian contributions to UN peacekeeping have been notable for their high standards of training and for the high number of women they deploy. Mongolia has risen to become the 27th largest contributor to UN peacekeeping, with nearly 900 military and police personnel deployed in five operations.
