Road slipperiness increases in UB

The General Manager of Ulaanbaatar City, Ts.Turkhuu gave information about the slippery road conditions in the capital city. He said that “As for the first week of this year, Ulaanbaatar City has sufficient supplies of salt and substances. During the reported period, 584 employees of 24 organizations worked for the road cleaning and 98 vehicles on the Sukhbaatar Square. Currently, there are 650 workers and 105 vehicles and machines working on road cleaning. 4,659 tons of substances and 5,603 tons of salt have been stored in urban development departments, districts and private furnishing service companies for this winter preparation. Also, 1,014.2 tons of substance and 1,213 tons of salt is left in the capital city, which is enough for Ulaanbaatar City’s road cleaning work for two months.” 

Moreover, urban and public works such as road cleaning, are being transferred to the Governors of districts from this year. Therefore, the substances and the equipment were also handed to the districts. In relation to that, spokesman of the Governor’s Office of the Capital City, N.Sugar said “If there is snow or slippery conditions in ​​the district, the people responsible for the work have to do their duties. The phone number and social media accounts of the people responsible for the district's slippery conditions and cleaning services will be announced to the public. Furthermore, the district and the capital city will be responsible for the cleaning services of public property areas. If there is a slippery condition in the front of the building, on the pedestrian or in the parking lot, citizens must give a request to the House Owners Association.”

There are also numerous cases of injuries caused due to the slippery condition on roads. For example, on January 5-7, 1,225 people received care at the National Traumatology and Orthopedics Research Center. Injuries caused by falls and slipping are the main cause of accidents and injuries this winter and the cases related to slips have increased significantly in recent days. Over 267 people were injured due to slipping and 47 people received emergency care after falling from sledding. The majority of people who slipped and fell are injured in the skull, hands and feet, elbows, forearms, shins, knees, neck, spine and pelvis. In terms of injuries, limb fractures are more prevalent and common than soft tissue injuries, concussions, bruises and contusions. Severe injuries include skull fractures, brain tissue damage, fractures of the areas such as pelvis, spine, tibia and medial cord.
