The documentary “The Valley of the Bears”, which has won more than 20 awards at international film festivals, was officially premiered in Mongolia. The documentary was directed by French director Hamid Sardar and has attracted the attention of international film lovers. The awards won by the documentary include awards from the Festival International du Film et livre d’aventure de la Rochelle, Festival International du film ornithologique de ménigoute, Le grand bivouac, Matsalu international nature film festival, Alpin film festival, and Jackson wild media awards.

The film is about the lives of preservationists fighting to preserve pristine nature and to answer questions of what humans can do against climate change, starring ranger J.Tumursukh. The Taiga, also known as the boreal forest, represents about 17 percent of the Earth’s surface and has the highest density of rivers and natural springs in the world. In Mongolia, its primary forests and pure waters have kept an entire nomadic population on its lands for thousands of years. But for more than 30 years, the rich natural resources of these Mongolian lands have fallen prey to illegal hunters and miners, often from the local population. In just a few years, Mongolia has witnessed an alarming collapse of its biodiversity. Faced with this worrying situation, the Ministry of Tourism and Environment created the “Red Taiga” Park in 2012 and appointed ranger J.Tumursukh as the head. The mission of this former local hunter is now to enforce the law of environmental protection, whose objective is to put an end to illegal mining, but also to traditional practices of hunting and nomadism. A very delicate mission for a just cause and the chief ranger is trying to rally more and more forest guards from the disgruntled local communities.
