At the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which is being held from September 10 to 25, the Ministry of Culture announced that the heritage site “Deer Stone Monuments and Related Bronze Age Sites” was registered in the World Heritage List.

The Deer Stone Monument plays an important role in forming a multifaceted memory, such as understanding the cultural space created by the Central Asian nomads of the Bronze Age, the origin of the nomads, society, economy, culture, and inter-tribal relations, history, art, and aesthetics.

                                                      The Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage was adopted in 1972 to protect, promote, and preserve natural and cultural heritage. Since Mongolia joined the Convention in 1990, the Uvs Lake Basin (2003), Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape (2004), Petroglyphic Complexes of the Mongolian Altai (2011), Great Burkhan Khaldun Mountain (2015), Landscapes of Dauria (2017), and its surrounding sacred landscape have been included in the World Heritage List. 

According to the 1972 Convention, to be registered as a World Heritage Site, the cultural or natural heritage must be of outstanding global value and one or more of the 10 criteria must be met. In addition, the heritage must contain the characteristics of “Authenticity” and “Integrity”.
