In cooperation with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO), the “Young Herder” project has been implemented since 2021. The Young Herder training program developed by the project was handed over to Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Kh.Bolorchuluun on August 31.
In 2022, the development and testing of the “Young Herders” training program with nine units of competence was carried out by selecting socially active and leadership young herders aged 22 to 35 from 74 soums of Dundgovi, Govisumber, Khuvsgul, Sukhbaatar, and Uvs provinces.
The project provided these people with a sack of millet seeds, a small skinning machine, and an electric sheep shearing machine to teach them how to plant green fodder in winter pastures.
One of the important results expected this year will be the organization of an experience exchange trip for young herders. Currently, a training course is being organized for young herders in the eastern and central regions, and it is planned to organize training and a trip to the western provinces in September and October.
