On August 30, the parliamentary irregular session closed and chairs of standing committees were appointed.

Based on Articles 26.3 and 26.4 of the Act of Parliament and Article 27.1 of the Law on Parliamentary Procedure, the following appointments were made.

• Lawmaker B.Enkh-Amgalan was appointed as chairman of the Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy

• B.Saranchimeg as chairwoman of the Standing Committee on Environment, Food and Agriculture

• G.Munkhtsetseg as chairwoman of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Science and Sports

• B.Battumur as chairman of the Standing Committee on Ethics and Discipline

• E.Batshugar as chairman of the Standing Committee on Innovation and e-Policy

• P.Anujin as chairwoman of the Standing Committee on Social Policy

• G.Temuulen as chairman of the Standing Committee on Budget

• T.Enkhtuvshin as chairman of the Standing Committee on Industrialization Policy

• L.Munkhbaatar as chairman of the Standing Committee on Justice

• P.Tserenpuntsag as chairman of the Standing Committee on Economy

As some chairs of standing committees were appointed as ministers, new chairs were selected.

During the session, Speaker of Parliament G.Zandanshatar remarked, “In a month, the next regular fall session of Parliament will begin. One of the traditional issues discussed at the fall session is the next year’s state budget. The whole world is changing. The issues discussed at this session, the opinions of citizens and the new international situation require us to be knowledgeable, sensitive, flexible, prompt, militant, courageous and decisive. Therefore, some amendments and changes were made to the Constitution in accordance with the decisions made by the Constitutional Court.”

“The government was also instructed to study how many members of Parliament we should have and how the principles of progressive electoral system should be ensured. The working group, parliamentarians and the government should pay special attention to these issues and discuss them in consultation with academics, political parties and the people,” he added.

During the irregular session, Parliament reviewed the information from the National Security Council and issues related to Resolution No. 02 of 2022 of the Constitutional Court of Mongolia, as well as got an update on current affairs. Accordingly, the Constitution and the Law on Government were amended. The structure and composition of Cabinet were changed and new Cabinet members were appointed as well.
