On April 23, the Office of the Supreme Court notified the Office of the President of Mongolia that all judges of the Supreme Court could not be present due to restrictions imposed on the court’s building.

President Kh.Battulga stated that he would arrive at the Supreme Court on April 23 to present the grounds for dissolving the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) to all judges and hand over evidence and other relevant materials. Following the President’s Office’s appeal to the Supreme Court, Acting Chief of Staff of the Supreme Court S.Amardelger spoke with Head of the President’s Office U.Shijir.

S.Amardelger said, “Due to a case of the coronavirus infection registered at the Supreme Court building, the courts judicial and other activities will be suspended from April 16 to 23, 2021 in accordance with the instructions and recommendations of the State Emergency Commission and the district emergency commission. Although some trials are being held remotely on time using Zoom technology, all judges of the Supreme Court will not be able to convene on April 23.”

He also noted that in accordance with the temporary rules of procedure for courts of supervision during the lockdown, the Supreme Court is receiving official letters, complaints or requests by mail or e-mail.

On April 19, President Kh.Battulga reported that a presidential ordinance on disbanding MPP was issued and submitted to the Supreme Court.

U.Shijir said, “The president’s decision to come to the Supreme Court does not affect the court’s proceedings. This is an administrative process. After the lockdown, the president will hold a meeting with the Supreme Court to explain the documents submitted. There is more than 200 pages of evidence.”

   Moreover, MPP demanded that the president stop trying to disband the ruling party, warning that it is a crime against the Constitution.
