‘Some evidences related to T.Chimgee will be declassified’

During its irregular meeting on March 8, Cabinet got acquainted with the evidence that T.Chimgee, who was convicted for the murder of politician and democratic revolutionary S.Zorig, may have been forced to confess through torture by law enforcement.

After the meeting, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene visited the Closed Prison Hospital No. 401 to meet with T.Chimgee.

The prime minister believes that it is important to assure that that the investigation of the most infamous murder case in Mongolia went in accordance with the law, regardless of the decision of the court.

“The case of torture was returned for reinvestigation by the Supreme Court. We must pay attention to the unresolved case that judges, prosecutors and investigators may have abused their authority. The National Security Council will discuss why the judiciary resolves some cases in a short time and prolongs others,” the prime minister said.

If T.Chimgee agrees, some recordings and evidence will be declassified, according to the prime minister.

On December 27, 2016, T.Chimgee was convicted to 20 years in prison for the murder of S.Zorig. If T.Chimgee is found to have been tortured, the case will be dismissed due to newly discovered circumstances and a new legal basis will be created for reinvestigation.
