During its meeting on January 19, the Standing Committee on State Structure discussed and supported the draft parliamentary resolution on announcing the regular election of the president of Mongolia in 2021 and setting the date of polling, as well as the draft parliamentary resolution on the use of equipment for the 2021 presidential election.
The draft resolution stipulates that the activity of the regular presidential election will start on January 25 and the polling day is scheduled for June 9, 2021.
Members of the standing committee supported to use the New Image Cast device for voting and counting.
Last year, the standing committee approved the draft resolution to hold a by-election in conjunction with the 2021 presidential election.
D.Sumiyabazar, who was elected from Songinokhairkhan District to Parliament, was appointed as Ulaanbaatar mayor. Therefore, a by-election is to be held in the district to fill the vacant seat in Parliament.
The General Election Commission of Mongolia estimated that the by-election and presidential election will cost around 100 million MNT. If these two elections are held separately, more than 1 billion MNT will be needed.
The Standing Committee on State Structure decided to introduce the proposal and conclusion of the draft resolutions for parliamentary review.
